We’re back with another edition of Trois et Moi. For each installment we’ll ask someone whose style we admire (that’s the moi part) to take one Parker Thatch bag and show us three different ways they wear it (that’s the trois part).
Today’s Trois et Moi stars Verena von Pfetten. Canadian-born and Brooklyn-based, Verena is the co-founder of Gossamer, an extremely chic cannabis brand and retailer. She’s also the co-author of a forthcoming coffee table book about psychedelics, Tripping Point (great title!), which comes out next summer. Verena’s style is easy, playful and a little bit tomboy, with plenty of coastal color and the occasional unicorn motif.
Verena’s PT bag of choice is the Charlie in caramel suede. “I’ve been looking for an ‘adult’ bag for ages,” she said. “I didn’t want something super fussy or formal or so fancy that I would have to be precious with it. The Charlie is perfect because it fits everything I need—laptop included!—but doesn’t feel overstuffed. Plus the brown suede adds a dose of texture and color to everything, which is crucial in New York since we’re bundled up for what feels like the majority of the year and all anyone can see of your outfit are your coat and your bag.” In case you can’t tell, Verena prefers the sunnier seasons, so fittingly she gave us her style tips while on a trip to visit her best friend on the west coast.
VERENA’S STYLE TIPS:
Don’t Hate the Layer
As Verena says, “Dressing in L.A. is hard for me! The temperatures are confusing. Half the time, 60 degrees in LA is way warmer than 60 degrees in NY, and the other half of the time it’s way colder, so I generally end up wearing a million layers.” The key to the look? Pairing like colors—she went for caramels, bone whites and a hit of blue—and keeping pattern to a minimum.
Be a Multitasker.
Pieces that can do double duty make the elusive “desk to dinner” concept an actual possibility. Verena wore fitted track pants with a simple tank and sneakers for a hike, then was able to throw on a men’s button-up, oversized turtleneck sweatshirt and a pair of flats and head to a lunch meeting. And of course her Charlie bag was clutch. “I cannot get over the fact that this bag fit my giant sneakers, water bottle, and sweaty tank top without looking stuffed to the gills,” she said. “A true Mary Poppins purse!”
Mix and Match.
Verena grew up in Vancouver, so it’s only fitting that she loves a Canadian Tuxedo. “I don’t have a strong opinion on whether your denim needs to match,” she said. “I think light denim pairs just as well with dark denim and that it can go either direction (light on top, dark on bottom; light on bottom, dark on top). The only thing that matters is that the denims are tonally similar.” She’s the expert!
