If you ask us, worn in is (pretty much) always better. A stiff new pair of jeans vs your favorite, perfectly faded, molded-to-your-body pair? No question. A shiny, just-out-of-the-box pot vs. the one your grandmother gave you (that she got from her mother)? Dinner just tastes better in the second one. It’s one of the reasons why we created our “worn-in” collection of styles: to create that “oh, I’ve had this bag forever, I can’t live without it” vibe from day one. And while we knew we were onto something, it’s always nice to get a little external validation, which is exactly what happened when Harper’s Bazaar recently featured the collection—and our amazing Creative Director Joyce—in a piece about the beauty of a beat-up bag.
Pristine is, according to the piece, out. Flawless facades have been replaced by ones with scuffs and scratches; these are bags that spend their time out in the world rather than nestled within a dustbag.
And that was exactly our intention with the collection, which started with last year’s much-loved Jack bag and has grown to include our Charlie, Maurice, Buddy, Lily, Belted Mimi, and Belted Jane styles. As Joyce says, “A real woman wants to wear her nice bag every day all over the place and not feel like, if she spills water on it, Oh my God, what happened?” In fact, we sort of think our worn-in bags look even better when they get a little wet (seriously!). Because when it comes to how loved, how important something is, just like those threadbare jeans and that sauce-spattered pot—the proof is in the patina.
