According to legend, the hero Bellepheron (and son of Poseidon) saw the winged horse Pegasus flying above and longed to be able to ride him. One night, he fell asleep in Athena’s temple.The warrior goddess of wisdom came to him as a vision in his sleep and presented him with a golden bridle. She ordered the young hero to make sacrifices to honor his father, Poseidon, and herself in gratitude for this gift. When Bellepheron awoke, he used the bridle to tame Pegasus and went on to have many adventures, including battling the Chimer
